F – A -I – L

Fail. No one wants to fail at anything. Fear of failure holds more people back than anything. One sure way not to fail, is not to try. You have to try. If you do not try, you cannot succeed. Thomas Edison failed over 10,000 times trying to invent the light bulb. He persevered and succeeded. How many people use light bulbs today? When asked why he kept trying after so many failures, he replied ” I just found 10,000 ways that did not work.” That is the attitude you must have. If you fail, so what. F-A-I-L just means “first attempt in learning.”

E – N – D

When you lack motivation, due to some small set back, you think that it is the end. You get frustrated and want to quit, I know how you feel, I really do. I have quit so many times. I have become determined not to let things get to me so that I want to quit. E-N-D is not the end. It means “effort never dies.”

 

N – O

You place ads, you talk to people about your product or your opportunity, and you get a “no.” After a while you get discouraged and want to quit. We all do. Don’t let it get to you. Every no is one step closer to a yes.

I met a very successful man in a network marketing seminar several years ago. He talked about prospecting. He said that he started keeping records of his prospecting efforts. He found that out of every 100 people he talked to, he averaged between 15 to 20 sales of his product to people who were not interested in his opportunity.

He also averaged between 5 to 10 people who joined his opportunity. Let’s take the low numbers, 5 for the opportunity and 15 for product sales. That is 20 out of 100. He would set up a spreadsheet with three columns. One was titled prospects.He would write down every prospect he spoke with. He would place a “yes” or a “no” in the column. The next column was titled customer.

If a person bought a product from him, he would have a “yes” in the prospect column, and the number of products purchased in the customer column. The next column was titled distributor. If he talked to a prospect, he placed a “yes” in the prospect column. If the prospect bought a product, he would place the number of products in the customer column. If that person became a distributor, he would place a “yes” in the distributor column. 

The point I am trying to make is, that every time some one said no, he knew how many more people he had to talk to before getting a yes. It is a numbers game that involves the law of averages.  N-O means “next opportunity.”

S – W, S – W, S – W, Who’s Next?

Many times we will run an advertisement and do not get the results we were hoping for. We spend money and do not get a return for it. After a few times of this we get frustrated and want to quit.

In network marketing, in particular, you just get tired of talking to people and getting no for an answer.  

Try this: (S-W) some will, (S-W) some won’t, (S-W) so what, Who’s Next? You just have to keep going. Test and tweak, test and tweak.
